Talin Büyükkürkciyan

An Independent choreographer, improviser and performer in Istanbul, graduate of European Dance Development Center, Anhem /Holland on the subject of dance and choreography, one of the initiators and the coordinator of Transit Istanbul İmprovisation Days.She has worked with DavidZambrano, Wim Vandekeybus, Jan Marushi, Esther Gal, Martin Sonderkamp, Marcus Grolle, Kirstie Simson, Julyen Hamilton, Daniel Lepkoff on improvisation and composition and with Marry O’Donnel, Eva Karczak, Tony Tacher on release technique, tai-chi , chi-kong, alexander technique and hands on.In her artistic work she develops defined performative concepts that use twists in perception creating pieces that are poetic, humorous, intimate and political at the same time. In her solo work she explores intimacy with story telling standing in the between fiction and reality.In 2009,Talin member of Cati Association created the collaborative project Lost & Founds with Sisypeheureux/ France and Tenerifedanzalab/ Canary Islands, performed in these three countries. Continues to teach Movement Techniques classes at İstanbul Bilgi University Performing Arts Department and is graduated from the Cultural Studies Master Program at İstanbul Bilgi University in 2011.

An Independent choreographer and performer in Istanbul, graduate of Latin Language and Literature at Istanbul University, graduate of European Dance Development Center, Anhem /Holland on the subject of dance and choreography, one of the initiators and the coordinator of Transit Istanbul İmprovisation Days,  member of  ÇATI Contemporary Dance Artists Association.

 

Talin Büyükkürkciyan has worked with DavidZambrano, Wim Vandekeybus, Jan Marushi, Esther Gal, Martin Sonderkamp, Marcus Grolle, Kirstie Simson, Julyen Hamilton, Daniel Lepkoff on improvisation and composition and with Marry O’Donnel, Eva Karczak, Tony Tacher on release technique, tai-chi , chi-kong, alexander technique and hands on.

 

Danced with Emre Koyuncuoğlu in the piece “Home Sweet Home” at “A Sul” Festival/Faro, at Mosaique project in Alkantara Festival, with Lisa Penti at EDDC Theater and with Anguls Balbernie in the piece “Folk Songs” at Tanzhouse Düsseldorf.

 

Her pieces has performed in many different countries including Gümrü Biennale 2000, Bonn Biennale 2008, International Istanbul Theater Festival 2008. Talin presented her solo work work in Londondery/England Echo Echo Dance Theater, Gümrü Biennale /Armenia, Festival of Monodrama and Mime/Serbia, French Cultural İnstitute/İstanbul, Artena Art Festival/İtaly. She has performed her solo work “Kırkıncı kapıyı açarsan...” (If you open the 40’th room...) in Marseille at Dansem Festival at 2008. 

 

She had been choosen  twice in a row as one of the young choreographers to take part in the young choreographers meeting of Arab and Mediteranean Countries in Barcelona in 06 and 07.

 

She has performed "Slipped and Fell" at the Istanbul Reconnects Festival in 2006. Her quartet “Tepetaklak” premiered at the İstanbul Dance Festival 2007 and performed at the Bonn Biennale 08 which got four stage calls  and great reviews in Bonn. Following with “Tersi –Düz” (Upside - down) which premiered at the 16’th Istanbul International Theater Festival she created “Mekanizmalar” (Mechanisms) which was a quintette and performed it in many venues in İstanbul and iDans Festival. Her latest piece “Mesele” (Issue) has premiered at the 17’th Istanbul International Theater Festival and played all season throughout 2010-2011 Season in İstanbul. 

 

In her artistic work she develops defined performative concepts that use twists in perception creating pieces that are poetic, humorous, intimate and political at the same time. In her solo work she explores intimacy with story telling standing in the between fiction and reality.

 

On the years 2008-2009 Catı Dance Studio from Turkey , Sisypeheureux from France and Tenerifedanzalab  from Spain  created the collaborative project Lost & Founds. Talin was one of the four choreographers who created this project. The piece has been performed at the Canary Islands, France and İstanbul different venues.  

 

Talin continues to teach Movement Techniques classes at İstanbul Bilgi University Performing Arts Department and she graduated from the Cultural Studies Program at İstanbul Bilgi University in 2011.

 

She has written the book"Feriköy anılarda - şimdi" about the Feriköy area of İstanbul, telling also about her childhood. The book is one of the 40 books that was sponsored by 2010 İstanbul Cultural Capital team and this project was found one of the best projects of 2010 İstanbul Cultural Capital.
