born 1976 in Yerevan, Armenia, lives and works in Florence, Italy
In my artwork, I wish to concentrate my research on the form and the space relating them to a person and his/her physical and psychological perceptions. This inspiration comes from my experiences matured in Armenia, the country with strong nature, that has been always transmitting me a sensation of rhythm of the space.
Throughout my works, I try to carry the visitor to a multidimensional reality, full of contrasts and observed from a personal and social point of view.
I present two works, both of them conceived explicitly for the show "Grandchildren".
“Senza titolo” is based on a conversation I had with a friend of Turkish origin about the question of the Armenian Genocide. In her opinion the Genocide was merely an
invention of the Armenian Diaspora. I was not so much touched by her statement but rather by its social implications: identity formed through bad education between ignorance and complexes, without
any kind of perception of the reality that is being manipulated for political reasons.
Through my work I intend to draw the visitor's attention to this reality, present not only in Turkey or Armenia but also in the rest of the world and often being the cause for incomprehensions,
conflicts and dramatic events.
This piece is a simple but impressive sculptural installation, based on two cubic structures out of metal that are held together by a little cube placed at the center of their common space.
The tension that keeps up the two big structures is the same that converges onto the small cube, metaphor for the idea of identity, completely deforming it.
"Labirinto spaziale" is a work through which I try to reflect upon the psycho-physical dimension of human mankind. There are "empty" interconnected rooms beyond any
logical structures, where, notwithstanding the transparency of the spaces, the presence of closed doors creates a psychological tension.
With this work I want to bring the visitor's attention to the complexity of any person and to invite him to a psychological voyage through these unknown dimensions.
